O'Grady was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Jan and Jim O'Grady, a financial planner. The family was raised by her parents in Wheaton (Illinois) as well. She was a graduate of North High School of Wheaton. In commercials, she appeared prior to moving from Wheaton, Illinois, to Los Angeles. The first role she had was to model in the company of Montgomery Ward. She also appeared in several advertisements.
